I created an avatar who would be a potential gun owner.
My customer avatar is a male in his forties, who still
thinks he is in the twenties since he does still like to have fun, but he is a big family man; He is married with
four kids. He grew up in a family around firearms, as him and his father used
to always go shooting for fun. He enjoys collecting different firearms whether
it be hunting rifles or handguns. He will even take his kids hunting or to shooting
ranges for enjoyment and also because he finds it important to tech his kids
how to shoot properly. He has had his concealed weapons license for quite some
time now, but when it comes to the idea of who can purchase a gun, he finds that
very important.
He is a businessman that would be
classified as a conservative. He has very traditional values when he goes about
either his work or personal life. He drives more of a flashy car, a BMW, because
of the business he is in, but on the weekends you’ll find him driving his truck,
which is more of his style. His main reason for purchasing firearms, besides
for sport, is for protection. He believes it is very important and his job to
protect his family in emergencies and sees a firearm as a defense mechanism.
My avatar customer knows a lot of information
about guns and the process of obtaining one. So he takes it very seriously when
purchasing a gun. Each time he shops he’s very particular in the type, color,
make, and size of gun.
Something I do have in common with
this avatar is that when I am at the eligible age I do want to get my concealed
weapons license because I do think it is important for your own protection if
it is needed. Plus, my own father has taken me to shooting ranges multiple
times and I have enjoyed it.
This isn’t that much of a
coincidence since he is in the segment of gun owners/wanting to purchase a gun because
when I do reach the age of 21 I believe I will fall into that segment as well.

Hey Kaitlin,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog about your ideal customer and the avatar represented by him. I have a vivid image of the avatar you created and can think of many people in my life that fit this prototypical customer. For instance, my dad could be in this category. I grew up around guns for safety reasons and because of his job and I feel that I fit your customer avatar's "children" description. People like my father are very peculiar about the guns they buy, who should own them, and the proper way to manage them. I think there is a wide market for people that fit this category.
Hi Kaitlin,
ReplyDeleteI actually really enjoyed reading this post, it was one of my favourites because it is very creative. I think its great how detailed you have made your customer avatar ! Even down to the glasses. I can really imagine now who your customer base would be and I visually get a good idea of what they would look like. You have done a good job of story telling - somewhat better than how I did. Sensitive topic about guns but you tell it well.

Hi Kaitlin,
ReplyDeleteI found your prototypical customer and avatar extremely interesting as I think you accurately described the perfect customer for your entrepreneurial service. Middle-aged males are documented to be the largest consumers of firearms and weapons so I think that you are targeting the perfect segment. Additionally, I really liked the fact that your customer has a family and takes them shooting as a recreational activity because it shows that guns can be used for more than protection. Great job!
