3.     A description of how you found the person and contacted the person

4.     The nature if the exchange you have with the person
o   I asked what type of research she mainly does within the psychological field and discussed with her my service and how researchers like her could help make this service effective. She shared with me that extensive research would be needed but it’s something very interesting for her to think about.
5.     How will including this person in your network enhance your ability to exploit an opportunity?
o   Including Rachel in my network will allow me to then meet more researchers she knows who are also experts in this field. Ultimately, I will then have a team of researchers that could help me create the effective service I have in mind.

The more people that know about it, the better chance I have of the service being implemented effectively.

Reflect: This assignment allowed me to get my foot in the door with networking and see what it was like. Now when it comes to future networking events I will feel more comfortable and confident when discussing different ideas with potential networkers. I haven’t had much networking experience in the past so this was a very different and unique experience for me.

  1. Hi Kaitlin,
I think you did a terrific job with your first networking experience. I agree that by networking for this assignment, we will be more confident and comfortable in the future to discuss our ideas with other people. I specifically found your networking with Miles important because you would want his support for your idea as he is selling firearms to the small businesses that sell them to people and who would use your idea. Great job developing your social capital through this assignment!

  2. Hey Kaitlin,
You chose three really good people to reach out to and network with about the service you want to provide. The experience that these people have will legitimize your product so much more and help bring it into creation much easier. The input from store owners and having day to day examples of how your product fills an obvious need provides a solid background when it comes time to act on your idea. Great job!
