This semester, one time I failed was during my
speech class. I was required to present a persuasive speech that must be six to
eight minutes long. I wrote my outline and created my visual aids, however, with
friends in town that weekend I did not practice my speech, I figured I would
just practice that Monday and give my speech that night. However, that did not
happen. I ended up being at the doctors all day and searching for my
prescription at numerous different Walgreens and Publix’s because none of them
had the right one. So by the time I got back home I had thirty minutes until I
was supposed to give my speech. I went in there and did the best that I could
but clearly it was not good.

What I learned from this experience is that life
happens and it’s ok to mess up in school one or twice it’s not the end of the
world. But it also did teach me that I should also plan for the worse to
happen. I should’ve practiced over the weekend just in case something out of my
control did come up, which is what happened.

I have never been one who liked failure. Failure
was never an option for me and if I did fail I took it hard. It makes me feel
almost weak and below others. However, I realized everyone is different and
some people will be better at things than me and I may be better at some things
than other people. So ever since high school I decided that you don’t know you
will fail unless you try so I take risks even if the possibility of failure is
there because it’s just an opportunity to learn something new. This class
hasn’t changed my perspective much since I am a risk taker, but this class did
show me how I can apply this mentality I have developed into the real world
when I decide to embark on my own business. Being scared of failure should not
be a reason why anyone doesn’t go for something, take the chance because yes
there is that chance of failure but there is also that chance for success.
Hi Kaitlin,
ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience with an exam last semester when I went to Atlanta for the weekend. I thought I would study there, but I didn't. I justified that by telling myself I would study all day the day of the exam, but there just wasn't enough time and I ended up doing horribly on the exam. When you have a lot going on, it's so hard to find the right amount of time to get school stuff done too. But, I agree with you that it's okay to make mistakes like this here and there. It's disappointing for sure, and no one likes failure, but not the end of the world. Great post!
