How to Fail at Almost Everything
and Still Win Big, Scott Adams
What was the general theme of argument of the Book?
·
Scott Adams discussed many important life
lessons but the main takeaway is that you may feel that other people similar to
you are succeeding and you are not, but that doesn’t mean you should give up it
takes time and patience. You will learn from each failure and eventually reach
success.
How did this book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance
what you are learning in ENT3003?
·
This connected and enhanced what we are learning
in ENT3003 because throughout this course we were building a business. Each
assignment required putting in work and really thinking about the layout and all
aspects of this business. And what Scott Adams talked about related to this. He
explained that you must put work in now to see something in the future. He said
you must use a system in order to reach your desired outcome, which is what we
were doing with each assignment as we broke down our business plan into
specifics.
If you had to design an exercise for this class based on the
book, what would that exercise involve?
·
This exercise would involve thinking about possible
failures that may occur in their own business idea. And then they would have to
decide how they would overcome those failures and actually learn from them.
Through this they can reflect and hopefully see that perhaps without those
failures they may have not known certain things that they do now or came up
with a new idea that they wouldn’t have before, which can make failure seem not
as negative as it is sought out to be.
What was your biggest surprise or 'aha'
moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed
most from your expectations?
·
I think the thing that surprised me the most was
that I wouldn’t expect a man who created Dilbert (comic strip) would have such a large
influence of how I think about pursuing certain things now. I expected a few
life lessons here and there but Scott Adams has really experienced so much and
because of those experiences he is able to communicate huge contributing
factors of what makes someone successful in the business world.
